Some say Zar’zima has known death a thousand times. Some say she is deathless. One thing is certain: consequence finds those who follow her.
Of the Minor Gods, Zar’zima is one of the most the most enigmatic. It is known that, superficially, she is a goddess of “eternal pain” and consequence. However, those who know her story know there is more to her than vague notions of damnation.
Zar’zima was once a Mortal known as Damnation Chastain. In her Mortal life, she was a Devout of both Kasamei and Gu’labir. Though the trajectory to this event was unknown, as a Mortal, Zar’zima was imprisoned in the Space between Stars by Kasamei. It is believed that Zar’zima requested this from her Goddess, though it is possible it was a punishment. All that is publicly known of Zar’zima’s time in this space is that she endured exceptional pain for at least a century; when she emerged, she emerged changed–her skin partially flayed–and imbued with Divinity. It is believed she is the only Mortal who has ever survived imprisonment in the Space between Stars.
Now, Zar’zima walks a strange road, assuring that consequence comes for all. Even Gods. Though the machinations are not entirely known, it is assumed she helped T’heron in the eventual unseating of Verine.
Followers of Zar’zima
Very few follow Zar’zima, as, unlike most other Gods, Zar’zima does not allow Followers. Instead, she selects her Devout, who must first request her worship. It is known that Zar’zima does not suffer insult well: those who have insulted her, should they ever wish to follow her Devotion, will have a difficult road ahead of them.
You may not play a Devout of Zar’zima unless you pursue it in-game.
Zar’zima and the Layfolk
Zar’zima is almost entirely unknown by Layfolk. Very rarely, she appears to them, but in these cases it is usually only to offer them a path to her Devotion.
Costuming and Appearance
Because of Zar’zima’s rarity, there is no established common appearance of her followers. Most commonly, her followers will wear a small broken chain.
The Blessed
The Blessed of Zar’zima, very occassionally, will lose patches of their skin, revealing the living muscle and veins beneath the flesh.
